Payments may be in the form of cash, check, or money order. Credit and debit cards are taken in the office and online at Beacon - Jay County, IN - Search but will require a convenience fee of 2.5% or $2.00 for eCheck. These fees are retained by the company providing the card processing service. This service will be shut down at midnight on May 12th and November 10th to allow penalties to be assessed.
Property Tax Payment Information
Property taxes in Jay County will be due Spring May 12, 2025, and Fall November 10, 2025. Payments can be made in the Treasurer’s Office located at Jay County Court House, Portland, Indiana, during regular business hours Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Payments may be mailed to Jay County Treasurer, 120 North Court Street, Ste 203 Portland, Indiana 47371. Spring payments must be postmarked by May 12, 2025.Fall paymentsmust be postmarked by November 10, 2025. If you mail your payment on the last day of collection, we strongly suggest you take the envelope inside the post office and have it hand postmarked. Payments received with a postmark after the due date are subject to penalties. If you would like a receipt, please include a self-addressed stamped envelope.
A drop box is located on the south side of the building. PAYMENTS PUT IN DROP BOX AFTER MAY 12th AND NOVEMBER 10TH, WILL BE CONSIDERED LATE. PENALTIES WILL BEAPPLIED.

Banks: Tax payments can be made at First Bank of Berne, and Farmers & Merchants State Bank.
Due to the high call volume at collection time, the phone may not be answered immediately, emails and voicemail responses may be delayed.
The Treasurer’s Office will not be held responsible if you do not have your tax statement or a total with you to make payments. If there is a parcel that goes unpaid it is the taxpayer’s responsibility and does not lie on the responsibility of the office employees.
